Last updated: 21 October 2026. Applies to Panned Out version 1.x for iPhone and to the Panned Out waitlist on this website.
The short version
- The Panned Out app doesn't collect your personal data. Your recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, aisle order and settings are stored only on your iPhone. On the App Store this is shown as "Data Not Collected".
- There's no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, in the app or on this website.
- The app has no AI features in this version and doesn't send your data to us or anyone else.
- If you join the waitlist, your email address is handled by our email provider, MailerLite. See below.
Who we are
Panned Out is published by SD Direct Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14980895), registered office C/O Findlay Todd Accountants, The Clervaux Exchange, Clervaux Terrace, Jarrow, Tyne and Wear, NE32 5UP, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data we handle: waitlist sign-ups and emails you send us. Contact: email us.
What the app stores, and where
| What | Where it's kept | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Recipes, ingredients and portion sizes | On your iPhone, inside the app | Only you |
| Weekly meal plans and history | On your iPhone | Only you |
| Shopping lists and aisle order | On your iPhone | Only you |
| Your settings (for example units and diet preferences) | On your iPhone | Only you |
None of this is sent to our servers. We don't run any servers for this version of the app.
Backups. If you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, Apple's backup includes the app's data along with the rest of your iPhone. Apple's privacy policy covers that, not this one. We can't access your backups.
Export and import. You can export your recipes and plans to a file and import them again, for example onto a new phone. The file goes wherever you choose (Files, AirDrop, email and so on). Once you've shared it, it's under your control.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist on this website, we collect your email address and, if you choose to answer, where you shop most (big supermarket, mid-size supermarket, or convenience).
- Why: to send you an early-access invite and launch news about Panned Out, a few times at most. The shop answer helps us improve aisle layouts.
- Lawful basis: your consent. You confirm your sign-up by email (double opt-in), and you can withdraw consent at any time.
- Who processes it: MailerLite, our email service provider, stores the waitlist and sends the emails on our behalf as our processor. Their privacy policy is at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. The sign-up form is provided by MailerLite.
- How long: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and no longer than 12 months after the app launches.
- Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link, or email us and we'll remove you.
We never sell or share the waitlist, and we don't use it for advertising.
This website
This site has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no cookies of its own. It's hosted by Netlify, which, like any web host, processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
Information Apple may share with us
Apple runs the App Store and may give us anonymous, aggregated statistics (for example download numbers) and, only if you've chosen to share with app developers, crash reports. Apple's privacy policy covers this, and you control it in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. We use it only to fix bugs and improve the app.
If you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and help you. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: answering your question. We keep support emails for up to 12 months after the conversation ends, then delete them. Emails to hello@pannedout.co.uk are forwarded by our domain provider, Porkbun, to our business email inbox, which stores them on our behalf.
Children
Panned Out is a general-audience app and isn't aimed at children. The app doesn't collect personal data, so it collects none from children either.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct and delete your personal data, to object to or restrict how it's used, and to data portability.
- App data: it's only on your device. Use the export option to see or move it, and delete items, use Delete all data, or delete the app to remove it.
- Waitlist and support emails: email us and we'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we add features that change how data is handled, we'll update this policy, change the date at the top, and tell you in the app before any new data leaves your device.
